asbestos Masks

Will I get asbestos disease?

I was walking to my university and was passing a house that was being demolished. I heard an alarm bell ringing but I didn't know it was because they were removing asbestos from that house.
As I walked past the place, I saw a man in a asbestos mask/suit turn to look at me. He was in the front garden of the house and I was on the sidewalk.
I only then saw a sign saying "warning, asbestos removal in progress" and I quickly walked past.

I'm worried I inhaled asbestos.

What are the chances?
Oh yes I see, i should have Googled it before hand. Never mind. I found info telling me that disease is very unlikely to result from a single, high-level exposure, or from a short period of exposure to lower levels.
Thanks for your input paulfriedman =)

The chances are miniscule. There are detailed methods which are used nowadays to prevent asbestos from getting out of the house/building where removal is going on.

Depending upon where and what condition the asbestos is found, the workers will put up huge plastic tents inside the house to keep asbestos isolated in the room(s) where it is found. It can be found covering pipes, in the attic insulation, in the plaster in/on the walls, and/or in the tiles covering the floors. This is especially true in homes/buildings that were built 50 or more years ago.

There is a shower station where the workers must enter to get into the room, and thru which they must exit when leaving the abatement area. They wear the suits, helmets, gloves, and masks so they don't get exposed. When they're working in the room, they take all of the contaminated areas down in a sort of demolition, spray everything down throughout the procedure, and the remains are placed in large bags used especially for asbestos, The bags are washed down before being taken out of the house, and then placed in a bin, which will eventually be carted off to a site where the municipality takes care of such materials.

Or ate least these are the methods they are supposed to follow. Unless you stuck your unprotected head directly into the abatement area or the quarantine bin, the chances for you to get asbestosis are extremely small, and you shouldn't be worried.
